Sharpen your photographic skills and explore the beauty of your State Park. Stroll through the rich green woods, surrounded by diverse fauna and flora. At the same time, learn to use your camera to better preserve the beauty of the landscape, and to share your unique vision of nature with others. We will spend a short time indoors, learning basic nature photography techniques. The indoor session will be held at the park s Recreation Building. This will include tips on camera settings, composition, and using natural light. We will spend the rest of the morning out on the trail, seeking out spring wildflowers, spring scenes, and other spring discoveries to photograph and enjoy. Remember that nature photography can get rather messy - be prepared to get damp and dirty! Wear long pants and sturdy hiking boots. Bring water and a snack. Also bring along rain gear, for yourself and your camera - weather can be very unpredictable in the East Tennessee hills. Of course, do bring you camera. DSLR s as well as point and shoot cameras are welcome. Bringing a tripod also is strongly recommended, as well as spare camera batteries, lenses, filters, and any other accessories.

Classics at The Capitol kicks off its 2017 season with a trio of films starring one of the most beloved movie stars of all time, Cary Grant. Since his acting years in Hollywood--the early 1930s through the late 1960s--Cary Grant has come not only the epitome of the leading male actor, but also a hallmark in style. The Capitol will be presenting three of Grant s films, including one of his collaborations with Alfred Hitchcock, on the first Thursday of each month beginning in March. Charade (1963) March 2nd--Often called the best Hitchcock movie Hitchcock never made, Charade directed by Stanley Donen (Singing In The Rain, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), features Grant in his only screen pairing with Audrey Hepburn. Charade mixes suspense thriller, comedy, and romance into one film. An expertly crafted cat and mouse game with Grant and Hepburn caught up in the search for $250,000, that also involves three unsavory characters and the CIA. His Girl Friday (1940) April 6th--A fast talking screwball comedy directed by Howard Hawks, Rosalind Russell is Grant s co-star in this story of cutthroat newspaper tactics as a hard-boiled editor (Grant) is about to lose his star reporter, and ex-wife (Russell) for good to the simple life of domesticity thanks to her new fianc . One of the most quotable films of all time, His Girl Friday and its overlapping dialogue has been an influence on generations of filmmakers. Notorious (1946) May 4th--Directed by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains co-star in this romantic tale of espionage. Grant plays T.R. Develin, a US agent who recruits the American daughter of a Nazi war criminal (Bergman) to spy on Alexander Sebastian (Rains), a Nazi hiding out post war in Brazil. As Grant and Bergman s characters begin to fall for one another, the stakes get higher. One of Hitchcock s most memorable films, Notorious is a must for any serious film fan. Each film will be preceded with an introduction by Andy Ross, a local columnist and film writer, whose work can be see regionally in The Loafer and online at The Retro Set. Chef James will take us Around the world in about an hour while showcasing different dishes from culinary hotspots across the globe! 1 st stop: South America - Argentinian Steak Tacos with Chimichurra using Olive Oil Divine Chipotle EVOO & Olive Oil Divine Jalape o Lime Balsamic. 2 nd stop: Asia - Soy Braised Short Rib with Scallion Fried Rice using Olive Oil Divine Lemongrass Balsamic & Olive Oil Divine Blood Orange EVOO. 3 rd stop: Europe - Wild Mushroom and Goat Cheese Strudel using Olive Oil Divine Balsamic Reduction, Olive Oil Divine Leek EVOO & Olive Oil Divine 25-Year Aged Balsamic. 4 th stop: The Good ole USA - Cherry Chess Pie with Balsamic Infused Whipped Cream using Olive Oil Divine Vanilla EVOO into crust & Olive Oil Divine Pomegranate Balsamic. Executive Chef James Allen graduated top of his class from Le Cordon Bleu in Minneapolis, Minnesota and continued his training at a Top 100 restaurant in Cashel, Ireland. While in Ireland he learned the importance of supporting local farmers and the impact it has on his menu. While he was the Sous Chef at Restaurant G in Birmingham, AL Bo Jackson, Charles Barkley and L.L. Cool J requested James cook for them on a regular basis. After serving as the Executive Chef of Tupelo Country Club, he moved to Johnson City six years ago to become the Executive Chef of Blackthorn Club at The Ridges. Since that time, Chef James has achieved the designation of Certified Executive Chef by the American Culinary Federation making him the only C.E.C. in the Tri-Cities area. Sample any or all of Olive Oil Divine olive oils & balsamic vinegars during this private event and make it a fun night out! All participants will go home with a sample of some of our product as well as the recipes for the evening. Brown bagging is allowed. We do not charge a corking fee, and we provide wine cups for your use. Filtered ice water will be provided. Space is limited. Cost is $35.00 per person.
