Since then, this truck driver turned super star has amassed a following of musical admirers throughout the Mountain Empire. Symphony of the Mountains proudly presents The Return of Carl Tanner with Symphony of the Mountains on Saturday, April 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. at the Toy F. Reid Employee Center in Kingsport.

2. Marvelous Function Is Coming To The Willow Tree!

Featuring soaring guitar and pedal steel over a heavy groove, Marvelous Funkshun blends Funk, Southern Rock, Blues, Sacred Steel, Hip Hop and R&B. The band has toured heavily throughout the Southeast for 2014 and 2015 and they have solidified a unique sound and supportive fan base from North Carolina to Florida. The live shows are a dynamic, foot-stomping get down and The Funkshun , as fans have been known to call them, have shared the stage with many of the top names in the jam scene such as The Lee Boys, Pimps of Joytime, Nth Power, Dopapod, Tauk, The Werks, Big Something and Eric Gales. Highlights of 2015 include sold out shows in Savannah for St. Patrick s Day at Barrelhouse South, the Whiskey in Wilmington with Kofi Burbridge guesting on flute, High Rock Outfitters in Lexington, NC, an opening set for Snoop Dogg and a charity concert hosted by the band and Todd Nance and friends (members of Widespread Panic, Drive By Truckers and Bloodkin) that raised over $1200 for Cancer Services, a local charity organization in Winston-Salem.

Join us as we go back in time! Union and Confederate forces will be deciding the fate of East Tennessee at the home of Confederate Senator Landon Carter Haynes. Come watch to see which side triumphs over the other. Then take an exciting tour of the house and explore the historic grounds. The battle Starts at 2:00pm each day. Admission is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children twelve and under.

This month we see the final installment in a trio of films starring one of the most beloved movie stars of all time, Cary Grant. Since his acting years in Hollywood--the early 1930s through the late 1960s--Cary Grant has become not only the epitome of the leading male actor, but also a hallmark in style. Join us on the first Thursday in May! Notorious (1946) May 4th--Directed by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains co-star in this romantic tale of espionage. Grant plays T.R. Develin, a US agent who recruits the American daughter of a Nazi war criminal (Bergman) to spy on Alexander Sebastian (Rains), a Nazi hiding out post war in Brazil. As Grant and Bergman s characters begin to fall for one another, the stakes get higher. One of Hitchcock s most memorable films, Notorious is a must for any serious film fan. Each film will be preceded with an introduction by Andy Ross, a local columnist and film writer, whose work can be see regionally in The Loafer and online at The Retro Set. I m thrilled and delighted to once again be at The Capitol talking about classic film Ross says, I can t think of a better kick off to the 2017 season than films featuring Cary Grant. All seen as they were meant to be seen, on the big screen. Show Time is 7:00 PM, Cost is $5.00 and tickets are available at the door.
