On a midsummer&rsquo s night, four young lovers find themselves wrapped in the dream-like arms of an enchanted forest where sprites lurk and fairies rule. While a feuding Fairy King and Queen are at war, their paths are crossed by Bottom, Quince and their friends. Chief mischief-maker Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in Shakespeare&rsquo s amusing comedy. Download study guide. Director s Notes When I start work on a play, I&rsquo m always looking for its source of life. What is it that every character has in common? What is it that flows through each moment and makes it tick. What is the blood in the veins of the play? And, in this case, it&rsquo s, of course, love. Love, the mysterious. Love, the ridiculous. Love the painful and the sublime. There is evidence that Shakespeare wrote this play to be performed at a wedding, and this used to bother me. Why, I thought, would he make love look so foolish at a love celebration? The play points out how nonsensical we can be about love: The humans fall in and out of love so easily and ferociously that it&rsquo s beyond laughable. The play that the mechanicals put on to honor love is a tumble of silliness. The fairy queen ends up literally in love with an ass. You get my point. But I think this is how we look from a distance. Love is what shapes the biggest decisions of our lives: where we call home, what we do, and who we do it with... and we give this uncontrollable, loopy thing the reins, happily. Love also shows up in this play as conflict, as motherly love, as protection, as bacchanalia, as a force that can change the weather&mdash Shakespeare serves up such a veritable souffle? of different kinds of love that we are sure to see ourselves somewhere in the mix. For we&rsquo ve all walked into those woods and gotten lost, been ridiculous and come back out, blinking in the light, changed forever by what we learned about ourselves at the hands of love. The Mountain States Foundation and Consumer Credit Union, along with youth from our region and performers from Tony Award-winning Broadway shows, proudly present the 6th Broadway Comes to Greeneville. Join us for an evening of song and dance while helping to raise awareness for Niswonger Children s Hospital. The young people performing in the show were chosen from a series of auditions throughout Northeast Tennesee and Southwest Virginia, the very same communities we serve at Niswonger Children s Hospital. Orchestra: $35 Mezzanine: $30 Balcony: $25 Ticket Fee: $1.50 per ticket. No processing or delivery fees This performance is not included in season ticket packages.

This month we see the final installment in a trio of films starring one of the most beloved movie stars of all time, Cary Grant. Since his acting years in Hollywood--the early 1930s through the late 1960s--Cary Grant has become not only the epitome of the leading male actor, but also a hallmark in style. Join us on the first Thursday in May! Notorious (1946) May 4th--Directed by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains co-star in this romantic tale of espionage. Grant plays T.R. Develin, a US agent who recruits the American daughter of a Nazi war criminal (Bergman) to spy on Alexander Sebastian (Rains), a Nazi hiding out post war in Brazil. As Grant and Bergman s characters begin to fall for one another, the stakes get higher. One of Hitchcock s most memorable films, Notorious is a must for any serious film fan. Each film will be preceded with an introduction by Andy Ross, a local columnist and film writer, whose work can be see regionally in The Loafer and online at The Retro Set. I m thrilled and delighted to once again be at The Capitol talking about classic film Ross says, I can t think of a better kick off to the 2017 season than films featuring Cary Grant. All seen as they were meant to be seen, on the big screen. Show Time is 7:00 PM, Cost is $5.00 and tickets are available at the door.
