Kingsport Pops! In honor of Kingsport s 100th Anniversary, their annual July 4th event will be taken to the next level in downtown Kingsport. This year, the Symphony of the Mountains will be joining in for a live performance with guest artists Carla Karst and local composer Andrew Kramer. THIS IS A FREE EVENT. TICKETS ARE NOT REQUIRED. THIS POST IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES.

Wednesday nights are open nights at The Willow Tree and it s one of our most favorite nights of the whole week! It s a wonderful night for aspiring artists of all kinds to share their magic with a beautiful audiance of respectful listeners. Time slots are 15 min max. You can do less but not more. The sign up board goes up at 5pm and spots usually fill up quick. You can only sign into one time slot. We love talent of all kinds music, poetry, storytelling.....

ia.As part of its 65th anniversary this year, Farris Funeral Service & Crematory will host the second installment of the Farris Funeral Service Learning Series at noon on Monday, June 26, at the Forest Hills Chapel, located at 19415 Lee Highway in Abingdon, Virginia Kim Farris-Luke, president and owner of Abingdon-based Farris Funeral Service & Crematory, along with Farris Blackson, aftercare coordinator, and funeral directors Stephen DeBord, Sam Hess and Amanda Perry, will honor veterans with an appreciation luncheon, and offer information on veterans services, honors and benefits. We are proud to honor our country s veterans, and give back to those whose dedication and selfless service define our great nation, Farris-Luke says. This seminar allows individuals the opportunity to voice any questions they may have about applying for a military funeral, including the various types of veteran honors and benefits that are available for their loved ones. Admission to the June 26 event is free of charge and open to the public. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to RSVP for lunch, call (276) 623-2700. The Farris Funeral Service Learning Series will be held on a quarterly basis throughout 2017. The next event is scheduled to be held in September.

5. Abingdon's Independence Day Extravaganza Free

As part of the Abingdon All-American Independence Day Extravaganza! Steady Rollin Bob Margolin & The Nighthawks bring the Blues to Red, White & Blue on July 1st, in downtown Abingdon at the Abingdon Market Pavilion. This event is a collaboration between Abingdon Music Experience, Parks & Recreation & Abingdon Main Street. The day s festivities will begin celebrating Abingdon s rich Revolutionary War history, with living historians & the Fife & Drum Corp on site. Activities include a Block Party with a foam pit and DJ, kid s crafts sponsored by Paper Moon Studio, antique tractors & fire trucks, and food trucks. The evening will end with live music beginning at 6, and a firework finale visible from the pavilion at 9:15pm. Steady Rollin Bob Margolin 6:00-7:00pm Boston native BOB MARGOLIN was born in 1949. Inspired by Chuck Berry, he started playing guitar at age 15 and immediately started performing in local rock and blues bands. Margolin was hired by Muddy Waters in 1973. Muddy s band toured the world and jammed with many great blues and rock musicians, but the biggest thrill was playing Muddy s Blues with him. Muddy brought Margolin with him to special shows and recordings, when he sometimes didn t use his whole band, to give him a familiar sound when working with other musicians. In 1975, they recorded Grammy Award-winning Muddy Waters Woodstock Album , Muddy s last for Chess Records, which featured Paul Butterfield, and Levon Helm and Garth Hudson from The Band. In 76, Muddy brought Margolin with him to San Francisco to perform at The Band s Last Waltz concert. Martin Scorcese filmed the concert for the classic film. As it happened, only one camera was operating during our performance, zooming in or out, and since I was standing right next to Muddy, I was in every shot while he sang a powerful Mannish Boy. Margolin also played on the four albums that Muddy recorded for Blue Sky Records, which were produced by Johnny Winter, and with Johnny on his Nothin But The Blues album. Three of those albums won Grammy Awards. Margolin left Muddy s band in 1980 and formed his own band. He relocated to Washington, DC then Blacksburg, Virginia eventually winding up North Carolina in 1989. All through the 80s I ran up and down the highways, mostly in Virginia and North Carolina. BACKCOUNTRY COLONIAL DAY CAMP 2017 Life in Backcountry Colonial Virginia and the Battle of Kings Mountain The Abingdon Muster Grounds will host a free day camp, June 26-30, 2017 for children ages 9-11. Come learn about life in the Backcountry of Virginia in 1780 from interpreters in period dress! Activities will include educational presentations, fun and games, and hands-on crafts. Only 25 spots are available so sign-up today! Snacks and lunches will be provided. Registration forms can be picked up at the Keller Interpretive Center at the Abingdon Muster Grounds.
