Join us Saturday, April 1 for a vintage base ball game! Rocky Mount is partnering with the Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball to host the Knoxville Holstons and the Emmett Machinists of Knoxville as they play base ball by 1864 rules. Admission is free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit in to watch the game. The gate opens at 11 a.m. and the game starts at noon! Event photo by Ron Zucker

Since his acting years in Hollywood--the early 1930s through the late 1960s--Cary Grant has become not only the epitome of the leading male actor, but also a hallmark in style. Join us on the first Thursdays in April and May to continue this series. His Girl Friday (1940) April 6th--A fast talking screwball comedy directed by Howard Hawks, Rosalind Russell is Grant s co-star in this story of cutthroat newspaper tactics as a hard-boiled editor (Grant) is about to lose his star reporter, and ex-wife (Russell) for good to the simple life of domesticity thanks to her new fianc . One of the most quotable films of all time, His Girl Friday and its overlapping dialogue has been an influence on generations of filmmakers. Notorious (1946) May 4th--Directed by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains co-star in this romantic tale of espionage. Grant plays T.R. Develin, a US agent who recruits the American daughter of a Nazi war criminal (Bergman) to spy on Alexander Sebastian (Rains), a Nazi hiding out post war in Brazil. As Grant and Bergman s characters begin to fall for one another, the stakes get higher. One of Hitchcock s most memorable films, Notorious is a must for any serious film fan. Each film will be preceded with an introduction by Andy Ross, a local columnist and film writer, whose work can be see regionally in The Loafer and online at The Retro Set. I m thrilled and delighted to once again be at The Capitol talking about classic film Ross says, I can t think of a better kick off to the 2017 season than films featuring Cary Grant. All seen as they were meant to be seen, on the big screen. Show Time is 7:00 PM, Cost is $5.00 and tickets are available at the door.

Chef Jane will demonstrate preparation of several dishes that utilize Olive Oil Divine products and fit into her specialty of Incredibly delicious raw food . Don t be fooled by the term raw because you will be amazed at the uniqueness and flavors she creates with her talent! Raw Chef Jane specializes in teaching the how-to s of raw food preparation and setting up your raw kitchen. She can often be found on Daytime Tri-Cities and Good Day Tri-Cities TV shows demonstrating her talents. She is also a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Her menu for the class will be a Baby Spinach Salad with a hint of red apple Zucchini Spaghetti with asparagus and for dessert, Fresh Fruit with a surprise twist. Sample any or all of Olive Oil Divine olive oils, balsamic vinegars, rubs, spices and herbs during this private event and make it a fun night out! All participants will also receive 10% off all regular priced items the night of the class! All participants will go home with a product sample and Chefs recipes for the evening. Brown bagging is allowed. We do not charge a corking fee, and we provide wine cups for your use. Filtered ice water will be provided. Space is limited. Cost is $35.00 per person.
