The Reece Museum
Salvador Dalí and the Divine Comedy Part II: Purgatory opens April 5, 2017 and continues through June 30, 2017. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. The guest of honor is Dr. Frank Barham, an ETSU alumnus, who, in 2014, donated the Salvador Dalí's illustrations for the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. Salvador Dalí's surrealist vision makes the 33 prints of Part II: Purgatory, frightening real. Each print illustrates one canto (book chapter) of the Divine Comedy in which Virgil guides Dante up the Mount of Purgatory. In 2016, the Reece Museum displayed Salvador Dalí and the Divine Comedy Part I: Inferno. In the spring of 2018, the Reece Museum will display the final installment, Part III: Paradise.
