February 25 and 26 class starts at 2:00- Come and learn the basics of why and how we barefoot trim. Learn hoof and limb conformation, abnormalities, pathologies, technique, booting, and more! Recommended items: hoof pick, hoof knife, and hoof rasp. (or just come and watch!) Cost is $30 per class or $50 for the weekend. If you have a problem horse for us to work on, contact me in advance. We can do the whole thing in the barn if the weather is bad.

Lord Nelson is two brothers, one greasy trombone, backbone bass, pocket drums, dirty south guitar and a hell of a lot of fun. The band was formed in 2012 by brothers, Kai and Bram Crowe-Getty. With the addition of Henry Jones on trombone and Trevor Pietsch on bass, this collection of Virginia boys presents original roots rock compositions about the people and places they grew up around. Lord Nelson s unique sound varies in range from slow burning, harmony laced anthems to back beat pulsing floor stompers. The release of their debut album, The County, highlighted a breakout year in 2015 for Lord Nelson. They also received hometown validation by winning the 2015 Rockn to Lockn Charlottesville battle of the bands and subsequently performing on the main stage at Lockn Festival. Now Lord Nelson is ramping things up, hitting the road and spreading their music up and down the East Coast. With their sights set on the next horizon, Lord Nelson is poised to play more shows than ever in 2016. New songs are emerging, new instruments coming into the mix, and new pins are dropping on the map. This is an ambitious young group with a powerful live stage presence. The Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is pleased to welcome back Larry Thomas, the actor who portrayed the infamous Soup Nazi, in the Seinfeld series. Thomas will be a celebrity guest for the 4th annual Great Winter Soup Cook Off on February 11, 2017. His No Soup For You! bark became one of the most famous catchphrases of all times and earned him an Emmy nomination and a permanent place in pop culture. Thomas s role in one of the most memorable episodes in the series became an overnight success. This all-time favorite spotlighted The Soup Nazi and the long lines of customers at his restaurant. In order to get to try his addicting soups, patrons had to play by his strict rules or he would yell out No Soup for You and throw them out of the store. Thomas will be available for autographs and his cook book and signed ladles will be availabe for purchase. Wonderful aromas and good tastes will fill the Grand Hall at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center as over 45 chefs and cooks compete for awards in several different categories in this soul warming event to benefit educational programs and enrich the lives of those in our community.. A panel of culinary experts will judge the soups in professional and amateur categories. Special cooking demos will be offered. And new to the event this year will be an IRON CHEF COMPETITION. Be sure to stop at our Cook-Off Cafe for tastes of local homemade baked goods, gourmet specialties, and wine and beverage samplers. Ticket price allows ten (10) tastings and admission to cafe door prize registrations and Best in Show vote. Additional tasting tickets available during event. Free for children under 5. Tickets purchased at the door will be $12.00
