The Johnson City Area HBA will present the 48th Annual Home and Garden Show February 17 - 19, 2017 and we are pleased to be returning to the Mountain States Health Alliance Athletic Center (Mini Dome) on East Tennessee State University campus.. The Annual Home & Garden Show is the place for you to find what s new in building, remodeling, landscaping and most anything related to your home and garden. Need information about a new loan or refinance? Looking to update the kitchen cabinets or do something new with the master bathroom? Want the opportunity to speak with landscape architects about that area in your yard? You ll find the resources to answer your questions all in one place. Make sure to bring the kids to experience the Kid s Zone where children will be encouraged to experience a workshop area created just for them and will have the opportunity to build, decorate, create and learn in a kid-friendly environment. Show hours: Friday, February 17, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Tickets for this event will be General Admission and will be available on the days of the show or in advance through EventBrite. Tickets are $5 per person per day. Children 12 and under admitted free when accompanied by paying adult. A Grand Prize Door Prize drawing for a $500 shopping spree will be awarded at the close of the show on Sunday. You do not have to be present to win. Don t miss it!

4. Restoration of the American chestnut: A marriage of breeding and biotechnology

The American chestnut is a unique example of a tree species, decimated by introduced pathogens, that is on the verge of restoration. For over thirty years, the American Chestnut Foundation has been breeding chestnut trees to introduce disease resistance from Chinese chestnut into a genetically diverse population of American chestnut. The major bottleneck has been screening the thousands of trees necessary to identify disease-resistance individuals with American chestnut traits. Dr. Jared Westbrook will present a public talk at the Washington County Public Library in Abingdon at 7:00 on Friday, February 10th to discuss how recent progress in genome sequencing technology is being used to accelerate restoration of this iconic tree. Sponsored by the Southwest Virginia Restoration Branch of the Virginia Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation.

6. This Mountain With A Great Disaster Live At Capones

Johnson City based bands This Mountain and A Great Disaster will share the stage downtown at the beginning of February for the first time in years. Both bands play a unique blend of folk rock, collectively featuring violin, cello, electric guitars, keyboards, and a myriad of lead and harmony vocalists. The show will consist of new material, some of it played for the first time, as well as songs from the bands previously released recordings. Tickets are $5 at the door and the show is 18 and up. Capone s is located at 227 E. Main St. in downtown Johnson City.

We welcome to our stage, personal chef, Chef Alan from A Chef 4 You for a night of foodie fun! Join us Thursday, February 2, 2016 at 6:30pm for class with Chef Alan. Chef Alan will demonstrate preparation of several fun dishes that utilize Olive Oil Divine products and can be easily made by you at home! Chef Alans menu for the evening will consist of: Fresh Garlic Olive Oil Mayonnaise (Aioli), Herbal Garlic Pesto Farfalle, Sizzling Spicy (Habanero) Shrimp, and Roasted Strawberry Balsamic Tart. As a participant, you will be served sample portions of the chefs dishes. Chef Alan has always been a self-labeled foodie and loves to cook. Earlier in life as an established mobile DJ and master of ceremonies, Chef Alan told his wife that the kitchen was his and the rest of the house was her domain! He is passionate about cooking, creating new dishes and recreating old favorites. Chef Alan now teaches his skills through an 8 week program at the S.W. Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, VA with his classes at capacity! After much encouragement from his wife and students, Chef Alan started his personal chef business called A Chef 4 You . Chef Alan says: I hate labels on people but they are necessary on food. An individual s diet is the sum of food and drink that he or she habitually consumes. A lot of people label themselves as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, meat eater, etc. but, I am a person who just loves to eat! Sample any or all of Olive Oil Divine olive oils & balsamic vinegars during this private event and make it a fun night out! Participants will leave with a sample of our product along with the chefs recipes for the evening. Brown bagging is allowed. We do not charge a corking fee, and we provide wine cups. Filtered ice water will be provided. Space is limited for this private event. Cost is $35.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased in-store or on-line, and are non-refundable unless this event cannot be held as advertised or we have an active waiting list. Living Divine with Chef Alan & Olive Oil Divine!
