The second in a trio of films starring one of the most beloved movie stars of all time, Cary Grant airs in April. Since his acting years in Hollywood--the early 1930s through the late 1960s--Cary Grant has become not only the epitome of the leading male actor, but also a hallmark in style. Join us on the first Thursdays in April and May to continue this series. His Girl Friday (1940) April 6th--A fast talking screwball comedy directed by Howard Hawks, Rosalind Russell is Grant s co-star in this story of cutthroat newspaper tactics as a hard-boiled editor (Grant) is about to lose his star reporter, and ex-wife (Russell) for good to the simple life of domesticity thanks to her new fianc . One of the most quotable films of all time, His Girl Friday and its overlapping dialogue has been an influence on generations of filmmakers. Notorious (1946) May 4th--Directed by The Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains co-star in this romantic tale of espionage. Grant plays T.R. Develin, a US agent who recruits the American daughter of a Nazi war criminal (Bergman) to spy on Alexander Sebastian (Rains), a Nazi hiding out post war in Brazil. As Grant and Bergman s characters begin to fall for one another, the stakes get higher. One of Hitchcock s most memorable films, Notorious is a must for any serious film fan. Each film will be preceded with an introduction by Andy Ross, a local columnist and film writer, whose work can be see regionally in The Loafer and online at The Retro Set. I m thrilled and delighted to once again be at The Capitol talking about classic film Ross says, I can t think of a better kick off to the 2017 season than films featuring Cary Grant. All seen as they were meant to be seen, on the big screen. Show Time is 7:00 PM, Cost is $5.00 and tickets are available at the door.

This workshop focuses on maximizing efficiency in vertical practice. We will be taking a close look at straddle climbs and learning how to invert and sit-up in ways that utilize the least amount of energy while gaining maximum height. We will also examine windmill in order to perfect our star shape in the air, and identify various balance points that can be used to find moments of rest within various moves or while creating interesting shapes. This technical workshop is perfect both as an introduction to straddle climbs and windmills and for students looking to refine these techniques. Cody Hayman discovered circus arts in a barn in Olympia, Washington in 2010. A student of a variety of circus and movement arts, Cody s main focus is aerial rope, which he has taught and performed on throughout the western United States. In 2014 he helped found Airbound Underground, a collective of aerial instructors, performers, and producers in Olympia. He was also an instructor at SANCA in Seattle, Washington Pre-reqs: Functional inversion in the air, knee hook leg wraps from the mat. Advance registration is required! 6. 5th Annual Bristol Half & Half Marathon And 2 Person Relay

The race starts at Virginia High School and showcases some of Bristol VA TN history and beautiful neighborhoods. You ll finish at historic Stone Castle. The 2 person relay is 7 miles and 6.1 miles. Proceeds benefit American Cancer Society. All half marathon and relay team finishers receive a great finishers medal. Kick off your spring racing season with a great half marathon.
