1. Rice Fields Family Hike Near Pearisburg, VA

Join us on September 30, 2017, for a guided Family Hike! The A.T. Community of Pearisburg invites you to celebrate Family Hiking Day with a guided hike on the Appalachian Trail to Rice Field on the crest of Peters Mountain. This hike is 5 miles round trip, featuring 1,200 feet of elevation gain over moderate terrain. The excursion will take 5-6 hours, and hikers should bring their own lunches and water. We will go at a stop and look pace and spend some time enjoying views from the mountaintop meadow and having lunch at the shelter. Hikers of all ages are welcome, but this hike is most appropriate for hikers at least 5 years old. We will meet in Pearisburg at 10 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead RSVP for complete details. We will be showing Hocus Pocus, with the beautiful Bays Mountain Park serving as the backdrop. Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy this family-friendly event! Admission is $5 for anyone over the age of 6, and free for children ages 5 and under. All proceeds will benefit Bays Mountain Park.
