5. Light Up The Capitol

The Capitol Theatre has been a centerpiece of Downtown Greeneville for years. Many people are familiar with the prominent Capitol Marquee. After extensive repair and restoration work, on September 27th at 8:00 PM, the historic marquee will be lit once again! The Capitol invites all to come celebrate this historic unveiling. Part of The Restoration of the Capitol Marquee was made possible with a $100,000 Grant from the State Community Block Grant Facade Program, that was given to Main Street Greeneville towards improving downtown buildings. Years of damage to the marquee has prevented it from regularly functioning since the early 2000s. Among the improvements are a new roof, new sheet metal, and an LED lighting system that replaces the previous neon lighting. The LED lights will mimic the look of the neon, but also makes the marquee more sustainable and energy efficient. As well, these improvements make the historic marquee the most technologically advance in Northeast Tennessee. The canopy lights under the marquee have all received new sockets, wiring, and LED lighting as well. The public is invited to share in the celebration. A performance inside the theatre by the Tusculum College Jazz Band will follow the ceremony. Additionally, South Main Street, from Depot to Summer street, will be closed off. The Marquee Ceremony will take place at 8:00 PM on September 27th. All are invited to come and witness this legendary landmark of Greeneville shine once more, with amazing new technology in the historic facade. The Capitol Theater of Greeneville is a non-profit performing arts center that features concerts, musicals, stage plays, classic films, and other events. Its mission is to be a centerpiece of Downtown Greeneville, to attract people from Greene County and beyond inside its doors, providing a variety of arts to everyone.
